About The Author


Abdul Punnayurkulam was born and brought up in Punnayurkulam, Kerala, India by his late parents, Pathayapparambil Moidunny Haji and Nariyampully Aisumma Hajjumma.


After high school, he went to United Arab Emirates for employment. Later, after extensive traveling in five continents, he settled in the USA. He has been residing in USA for the past 24 years. He received a Bachelor’s degree from Marygrove College, and Masters degree in Social Work from Wayne state University.

He Recognized by MILAN, Detroit (Michigan Malayalee Literary Assoc.) for his outstanding contribution to Malayalam literature in 2011. Received FOMAA(Fed. of Malayalee Assoc. of America) Literary Awards in 2008, 2010, 2011; Akshara Literary Award in Kerala, India in 2008; Kerala Panini Literary Awards in Kerala ( 2007); Literary Award in Maryland(MAM), U.S.A (2005).

He Served as President of Michigan Literary Association of North America (Milan) (2004); Joint-Secretary of Literary Association of North America (LANA) (2011- present). Published Malayalam (mother tongue) short stories book (‘Elappa’, 2007); English poetry book, ‘America, You Were a Scarlet Rose’ (2003); Malayalam poetry book (‘Snehasoochi’) (2001); published Malayalam articles, poems, travelogues, and English poems (1990 – present).

He works at Detroit East Community Mental Health Agency in Detroit as a social worker. He lives in Roseville, Michigan with his wife, Rahmath and their children, Manzur 22, Murshid 20, and Moideen 16.
