Abdul Punnayurkulam, a renowned Kerala author and celebrated Malayalam & English writer, has made a remarkable contribution to literature with his profound works. As a respected Malayalam author, his Malayalam novels list reflects a deep understanding of human emotions and cultural nuances, earning him a place among the finest literary figures in Kerala. He was born and grew up in Punnayurkulam, Thrissur District, Kerala State, India, in a wonderful and blessed family of his late parents, Pathayapparambil Moidunny Haji and Nariyampully Aisumma Hajjumma.


What Makes him a Great Malayalam and English Writer?


He then went for employment in the United Arab Emirates after high school. But many years later he was able to travel to five continents before he was able to finally live in the United States. He has been living in USA for the past 44 years. He had a bachelor’s degree from Marygrove College and a master’s degree in social work from Wayne State University.

He got NTV 2024 and LANA Aadaram: 2024 Kerala Writers Forum award. He received 2022 Fokana Sahitya Sevana Award. In 2023, 2020 and 2018 he got E-Malayalee Literary Award, New York for (Short Story: Lalanam), (English Kavitha: Bouquet of Emotions), (Malayalam Kavitha: Meenkaran Bappa). He received 2017 LANA (Literary Association of North America). He was recognized by MILAN, Detroit (Michigan Malayalee Literary Assoc.), for his outstanding contribution to Malayalam literature in 2011. The author has received FOMAA (Fed. of Malayalee Assoc. of America) Literary Awards in 2009, 2010, and 2011, Akshara literary awards at Kerala, India, in 2008; Kerala Panini awards, Kerala, in 2007; and MAM, MARYLAND literary award in the year 2005.

He served as president of the Michigan Literary Association of North America (MILAN) (2004) and joint secretary of the Literary Association of North America (LANA) (2011-present). Malayalam short stories’ collection ‘Elappa’ (2007); Poetry in English ‘America, You Were a Scarlet Rose’ (2003); Malayalam poetry ‘Snehasoochi’ (2001); Contributed in magazine columns, poetry, travel writings, and poems in Malayalam and English from (1990 till now).

He is a social worker at the Detroit East Community Mental Health Agency in Detroit. He resides with his family in Roseville, Michigan, his wife Rahmath, with their children Manzur, 22 years, Murshid, 20 years and Moideen, 16 years.
